1950s Tel Aviv through a child’s eyes
Born alongside the young state of Israel, Tzipi grows up feeling excluded from her parents’ secret language—Yiddish. Why do they use their words? What are they hiding? Naïve yet curious, she pieces together her family’s history, marked by loyalty to their new homeland and the pain of those lost in the Catastrophe. A tender, humorous, and sensitive child’s-eye view of identity and memory.
Rachel Shalita, born on the Tel Yossef kibbutz in 1949, is a Tel Aviv-based writer, artist, and renowned educator. A specialist in visual communication, she teaches at Beith Berl School of Art. Fluent in French and English, she has written short stories, novels, and plays in Hebrew.
